When and Why Chimneys Need to Be Lined or Relined
The typical masonry chimney was not built to accommodate high-efficiency heating systems. This predicament is presently a national problem. The masonry chimney was not designed for low-temperature applications and cannot hold up to low stack temperatures that produce condensation, which pulverizes and destroys the inside of the chimney. Today, while everyone is trying to update their heating systems to higher efficiency oil and gas burners, these masonry chimneys first require the installation of an insulated stainless steel liner. The stainless steel liner makes the chimney system stable, much more efficient, and eliminates the condensation problem.
