| Wood pellet stoves have become a popular form of heat because they are environmentally friendly, extremely clean burning and cost effective. So if you want supplemental cheap heating in your home and want something automatic and easy to use, consider buying a pellet stove. Pellet stove burn wood pellets, a fuel made from re-cycled wood by-products such as sawdust, wood chips and wood waste products. These by-products are sent through a pelletizing machine which produces pellets measuring 3/4" long.
You fill the stove up (typically the hopper) and hold between 35-80 lbs. and the stove will run for 48-72 hours before you have to refill it again. The downside is that if you lose electricity, the stove won't work (unless you buy battery back-up around $500). The pellet stoves heat between 800-2,250 sq ft and most light automatically.
